Child Protection Policy

WCBC has never had a problem with a child or youth being molested in our church, but in order to guard against a problem in the future, we have developed a child protection policy. The policy meets both state and federal standards. It is extensive, so it is not printed here, but is available upon request at the church office.

The policy states that there will be at least two screened workers in any setting where children or youth are meeting, in any kind of activity. Potential workers complete an application, after which references are checked, and background checks are made on the Internet. An office staff worker compiles the information and passes it along to an elder for final review. All workers provide a one-page update annually, and the policy is reviewed with the workers each year. Having two workers makes the likelihood of improper actions with children and youth very unlikely. It also helps provide protection for a worker from being falsely accused, as might be the case if only one worker is present. The policy applies to all ages from nursery through high school, in every kind of activity. We encourage you to bring your children to any and all ministries of the church.
